In life you will come across two types of people. There are the ones who pull you up, help you achieve your goals, motivate and inspire you and are happy to be role models for you to emulate. Then there are those who, unfortunately, pull you down, get in your way, sabotage your plans and generally put a negative spin on whatever you are trying to achieve. It’s really sad and unfortunate that quite often, these types of negative people are our friends and family members. Whether they know it or not, they can often be the spanner in our works that hold us back from achieving the health, weight loss, success and happiness we desire and deserve. And because they are our friends and family, we often let them, thinking that they have our best interests at heart. Well, this is when you need to be really honest with yourself and your loved ones. If they are in fact holding you back (whether it’s with negative comments, lack of support, continuous criticism, unintentional/intentional sabotage, etc), tell them exactly what you are going to do, regardless of how they feel. Then, if they still don’t support you, it’s important that you distance yourself from these people when it comes to achieving these goals. Now I’m not suggesting you cut off your friends and family but you need to determine which areas of your life you are happy to continue sharing with them, and only share those areas that you know they can’t negatively influence. And remember, someone who is holding you back is usually doing it out of jealousy or self-insecurity. It may be hard for them to watch you achieve your goals and improve yourself while they are being left behind. It’s always much easier to hold someone back than to keep up with them. But stick to your guns and, just maybe, you’ll inspire them to improve as much as you are.
