Laurie’s Rant – August

As humans, we evolved to become our current biological selves hundreds of thousands of years ago. Like any species, we evolved so we could thrive in our environment. Now, let’s try to picture the type of environment we evolved in… An abundance of fresh plants, fruits, vegetables, roots, seeds and nuts. Fresh water, fresh air and live healthy animals to provide us with lean meat. Not only that, we actually had to get off our butts to feed ourselves.  Not a McDonalds in sight. Now, does this sound anything like our environment today? HECK NO! We live in a world full of processed and refined carbohydrates, hydrogenated fats, artificial sweeteners, nutritionally devoid plant foods, preservatives, additives, flavourings, super-sizing, meats full of antibiotics and growth hormones (how tall are teenagers these days?!), pollution, drive thrus, computers, remote controls, medication, alcohol, soft drinks and sugar galore. ARGHHHHH!!!! Is it any wonder that we are the fattest and unhealthiest we have EVER been as a species? It all comes down to this – our bodies have not evolved to thrive in this type of environment. We have revolted against our own evolution by creating the world we currently ‘live’ in (I prefer to say ‘dying’ in). We have been so preoccupied with whether we could that we never stopped to think about whether we should. It takes thousands of years for a species to evolve to be better suited to it’s environment, so how are we supposed to evolve to a world that we created in just a couple of hundred years? This is where we have to go back to our origins people! Eliminate all the processed, chemically altered crap from your diet, eat plenty of fresh foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, drink water and water only, don’t automatically resort to medication when you’re sick and get off your butt once in a while. Treat your body the way it was supposed to be treated… like a human!

You say to drink water only, can I also drink tea and coffee? Also I sometimes run long distance around 1-2hrs, is a sports drink ok in this situation? Thanks for the great advice, really enjoy reading your articles!

  2. Thanks for your response Ryan. Tea and coffee are ok, but you really need to moderate the amount of milk you drink with these. Sports drinks are ok if you are running for 1-2hrs but please note that I would never recommend you do!
